Lighting beauties

Hola people of the world,

I am in a good mood :-) Just drove my new little car home and while it was getting the OK from my mechanic, I decided to just stop over at one of my sanctuaries when it comes to high end lighting: Klaus by Niemkamper, on King Street East.

Can I just say, it's truly inspiring to visit that store. Helpful staff and striking and unique pieces to marvel your eyes.

So armed with my camera (as a Designer always should), I snapped  a few shots and voici my favorite ones.

It's designed with mathematical precision by creating digitally etched brass, stainless steel and copper sheets. When lit up, the pattern creates an amazing shadow/light effect.

Sexy and curvaceous brass frame. It`s shiny, it`s glamorous, it`s stunning. Created by legendary Designer Alvar Aalto, these pendants are called A330 or Golden Bell and also come in black.

Already featured in my previous article, Mooois vs Bocci, this amazing structure is made with LED mini lights and the wiring is actually run within the sphere frame. Beautiful and very energy efficient, this light pendant offers a cool glow and will glam up any space.

3 different styles, 3 lighting beauties. Which one would you take home?

Trail Blazers

 Hello dear readers,

Hope all is well!
In the midst of moving, condo shopping, condo selling... I haven't had much time to blog.
But today, I decided to give myself 30m to blog about a lovely and exciting novelty I stumbled upon.

Our own Canadian furniture and decor store EQ3 has a collection from some of the trail blazers of Design, called EQ3 +.

Products and furniture from the likes of Herman Miller, Vitra and Alessi are now available in the modern retail store.
Herman Miller Nelson Swag Leg Chair, from $494.00

Herman Miller Nelson Swag Leg Desk, $1,930.00

  Alessi Blip Spoon Rest, $35.00

Herman Miller Eames Molded Plastic Sidechair - Wire Base, $346.00

Vitra- Panton Chair, $295.00

Also the Scandinavian brand Stelton and lighting pieces from Pablo designs are now within reach of you and I.

Stelton - Pure Black Chef's Knife - Large, $119.95
Pablo - Tube Top Colours Table Lamp, $120.00

I think this collection shows a successful interest of the Canadian Furniture manufacturer, that is known for affordability, to showcase upscale and classic design pieces. Good job!

New vintage finding

As we had this phenomenal weather this week, my friend Dan and I decided to stroll on Queen street west, and I came across a nice little place for used/found/vintage antiques knick-knacks. It's called Abraham's Trading Inc and they're at 635 Queen st, West.

I loved the outside display of these lovely vintage Coca-Cola crates:

And, because I am only human, I walked out of there with some new deer antlers for my seasonal display on my coffee table!

Overall, decent prices for great stuff. Because they buy/sell and trade, the inventory constantly changes. If you need a specific item, they will take your name down and if they come across it, they'll give you a ring.

Colour of the year

Pantone is quite a game player in the world of design and colour.

"In 1963, Lawrence Herbert, Pantone's founder, created an innovative system of identifying, matching and communicating colors to solve the problems associated with producing accurate color matches in the graphic arts community. His insight that the spectrum is seen and interpreted differently by each individual led to the innovation of the PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM®, a book of standardized color in fan format".  - From Pantone.com

2012  colour of the year is:  TANGERINE TANGO 17-1463

Below is a video explaining how and why they create new colours! It's truly fascinating! And no one other than genius Jonathan Adler says: "colour is like an over the counter anti-depressant!"

These guys at Pantone are genius in the world of visual arts and graphics. I am very happy to see a vibrant, high energy colour as colour of the year. Yet, this colour can be paired up with a  classic neutral to and create a sophisticated yet fresh room! think Tangerine Tango on a date with with Benjamin Moore - Witching hour (2120-30)!

Here are some home accessories inspired from TANGERINE TANGO:

Finally, if you, like me, love all the colours of the spectrum, check out these BEAUTIFUL canister from Pantone's most favourite colours! You can display proudly in your office, home office, living room or anywhere really as they would become a superb accent! Check out also many other kitchen products.

Where to get it? Here in Toronto, I found them at "Neat" http://neatspace.ca
